Before you play: saves and backups
Saves don't go backwards, so back up first. Then cold-boot and load with Continue.
Every release changes how the game reads your diary, so take two minutes before your first save.
1. Saves don't go backwards
The mod is not backwards compatible. A new version loads diaries from older versions, but a diary saved in a new version won't load in an older version or in the unmodded game. For example, v0.0.2 loads your v0.0.1 diaries, but a diary saved in v0.0.2 won't load in v0.0.1. So copy your memory card file before your first save in a new version, in case you want to go back.
2. Cold-boot the new disc image
Start the new ISO fresh from the main menu, not from a game that is already running.
3. Load your diary with Continue
Use in-game diary saves, not emulator save states from an older version.
